WHAT'S NEW? . DANIEL HOPING FOR GLORY AT 2012 PARALYMPICS!
New member, Daniel Frith proudly shows off his impressive haul of medals, including the one he gained at the UK School Games in September. The 17 year old who is autistic, epileptic and has learning disabilities won the silver medal in the 1500 metres track event at the Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield. Daniel put in 2 training sessions a week on the track with the club's over 15's squad during the summer and the good times he produced then certainly helped him on his way to being a medal winner. Head coach Stephen Wolstenholme says “Daniel is a really hard worker with an abundant of talent. He fit in really well with the rest of the athletes in the training group and is well liked”. Daniel is looking forward to a winter of cross country racing with the club in order to improve his fit and earn a place in the British team at the 2012 Paralympics. . 'OLD MAN' GETS SILVER AT CHAMPIONSHIPS! 'Old Man' Wolstenholme picked up the silver medal at the Yorkshire Veteran's Track & Field Championships in September. Wolstenholme moved from 3rd place to 2nd with 120m to go in the over 50's 800m and clocked a time of 2mins 24.2secs. Whilst this is 26 secs slower than he ran as a teenager Wolstenholme has learned to accept the inevitable decline brought on with old age!
VICTORY FOR VICTORIA!!!! The club's top veteran athlete Tori Lethaby
won gold in both the 100m & 200m at the
Northern Veteran's Championships held
at Leigh on 16th May. 35 year old Tori
is currently ranked 8th in the UK for her
age group over the 200m with a personal best
of 27.65secs . SENIORS 2ND IN NORTHERN TRACK MEETING!!!! The team travelled to Oldham on 7th May to
compete in the first Northern Track &
Field League meeting of the summer.
Swelled by the club's developing under
21's the team finished an astounding
2nd with the promise of more to come through

CLUB COACH SELECTED FOR NATIONAL TEAM Club coach, Stephen Wolstenholme, has recently been selected on to the National Youth Development Coaching Team. Only one of 12 coaches accepted on to the England Athletics coaching scheme, Stephen will be responsible for helping athletic clubs in the North East of England to develop their junior athletes. Stephen attended a two day course at Birmingham to learn about ‘England Athletics 365’. This coaching initiative provides a comprehensive development structure designed to take youngsters from complete beginners right through to national standard. Stephen will be using Athletics 365 to help ensure Bradford Airedale youngsters have the best opportunities possible for achieving their full potential over the coming years.
